Women should stop dependency>>> Actress Ani Amatosero

Actress, Ani Amatosero, recently stirred a debate online when she urged fellow women to ‘stop expecting too much from men’ as there could be certain ‘strings attached’.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actress maintained her position, saying, “I was an 18-year-old undergraduate when I started publishing a magazine, which is now 12 years old.

It is not right to depend ‘too much’ on people because everyone has their own problems to solve. No one owes you anything, except your parents or siblings who might support you because of blood ties.

It is very painful to lose one’s respect as a woman. That’s why it is good to earn a living. That way, even when one asks for support for one’s business, people would readily offer help because they know one is not lazy and entitled. Some Nigerian women demand too much from men. Unfortunately, a lot of ladies in this generation do not want to work. I have changed about six female employees in six months because of their laziness and unwillingness to learn.

All they want to do is have fun. Many of them want men that would foot their bills. They don’t want to learn a trade or business. They just want to make quick money without doing anything tangible.”

Amatosero also stated that she loved venturing into areas hitherto dominated by men. She said, “I studied Architecture at the Enugu State University.

I have always gone into fields that most ladies regard as being the exclusive preserve of men. I have always done what many people do not want to do. When I started my magazine, I was taking pictures myself, not minding what anybody would say.

Today there are female photographers that are doing extremely well. It is easier for women to get jobs and contracts because people would respect them for the fact that they are good at what they do, despite their gender.

As a publisher, whenever I go to the printing press, they treat me very well and attend to me before others because I am usually the only woman there. But most ladies, today, only want to sell clothes and shoes on social media.

“I have also produced over 12 movies. Acting is just one of the things I do.”
